Ten Reasons to Study the Bible

The Bible is God’s word revealing to us the mind of God for the past, present and future. Written by man under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It has endured through times and history and will endure to the very end. It continues to be relevant from one generation to another. The advancement in technology has been able to further establish the truth we already know in the Bible.
If indeed the Bible is revealing the mind of God to us then it will benefit us to dig deep and learn.

There are more than enough reasons to study the Bible,  I am sharing a few of those reasons to encourage you.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Reason #3 God’s word gives an opportunity to get to know Him

Our love for God should create a desire in us to get to know Him. We get to know Him through His word with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Daniel got to understand the times he was living in and God’s plan for the children of Israel by reading the word of God. (Daniel 9:2)

I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.

Psalm 119:15-16

Reason #4 God’s word gives wisdom for living

The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

The wisdom of the Bible is the wisdom of the ages. From one generation to another, men and women have tapped into it to live a beautiful and successful life.

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Psalm 19:7

Reason #5 God’s word gives courage for living

Life is a journey. It is comforting to know that there is so much we can learn from the Bible to help us in our day-to-day living. The promises of God written in His word encourages and gives us the strength to face each day.

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 4:4

Reason #6 God’s word protects from sin and deception

The word of God guides and teaches us to do what is right. In a world that constantly questions and debates what is right from wrong, we can be rest assured to discover the truth in the Bible and will be helpful to follow its instruction.

Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 19:11

Reason #7 God’s word reproofs and corrects when we are wrong.

Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:11,13

Reason #8 God’s word helps us to be fruitful and prosperous.

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Joshua 1:8

This is what the Bible has to say about a blessed man and the secret to his success.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:2-3

Reason #9 God’s word matures us

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17

Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 1 Peter 2:2

But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. Hebrews 5:14

Reason #10 God’s word gives us joy and hope for the future.

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4

Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:11
